A multi-agency search for a fisherman missing on the state's South Coast will resume this morning.
Emergency services were called to Batemans Bay Marina about 8pm on Saturday (19 July 2025), after a fisherman had failed to return from a day's fishing trip.
Police have been told a 56-year-old man had left the marina about 6am in an 8 metre Arvor cruiser. He was spoken to about 10am but when he failed to return, emergency services were alerted about 7.20pm.
Marine Area Command (MAC) immediately launched a search operation, with assistance from officers attached to South Coast Police District, Marine Rescue NSW and the Australian Maritime Safety Authority.
Yesterday (Monday 21 July 2025), the search area expanded to the north as far as Port Stephens, and south to the Victorian border, following unconfirmed sightings of the vessel by members of the public.
The search operation will resume across this area at 8am today (Tuesday 22 July 2025) by Marine Area Command, Marine Rescue NSW, Surf lifesaving, and AMSA's Challenger aircraft.
The Marine Area Command is seeking assistance from any members of the public or commercial fisherman who may have been fishing off the Batemans Bay or Bermagui areas on Saturday and over the weekend, to contact Crime Stoppers or the Marine Area Command with any information, or if they believe they may have sighted this vessel.
Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000 or https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au. Information is treated in strict confidence. The public is reminded not to report information via NSW Police social media pages.
