Search resumes for missing Somerset swimmer

The search for a 22 year old woman who went missing off Somerset Beach on Saturday afternoon will resume today.

Despite extensive searches, including the deployment of police divers and the Westpac Rescue helicopter, together with Marine Rescue assets from Ulverstone and Tamar, Surf Patrol Units from Boat Harbour, Somerset, Burnie, Penguin and Ulverstone, the woman was not located.

Expert opinion indicated on Sunday the missing person could not have survived, and the search was suspended.

Inspector Adrian Shadbolt said an air and sea search would resume today.

"Understandably, this is an incredibly difficult time for the family, and our aim today is to attempt to provide some closure for them," he said.
