Search underway after woman assaulted during aggravated break-in at Armidale

An investigation is underway after a woman was assaulted during an aggravated break and enter at Armidale overnight.

About 8.15pm yesterday (Sunday 26 July 2020), it is alleged two men forced entry to a home on Erskine Street, before assaulting the occupant – a 76-year-old woman – and stealing her handbag containing personal items.

The men fled the scene in the woman's silver Volkswagen golf sedan parked at the address.

Officers attached to New England Police District attended and established a crime scene.

The woman was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics for minor injuries.

About 12pm today (Monday 27 July 2020), officers recovered the vehicle from a premises in Niagra Street at Armidale.

As part of ongoing inquiries, detectives would like to speak to two men who might be able to assist them.

One man is described as being of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander appearance, aged in his 20s, about 170cm tall and of solid build. He was last seen wearing a light grey coloured hooded jumper and light grey coloured tracksuit pants.

The second man is described as being of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander appearance, aged in his 20s, about 190cm tall and of a thin build. He was last seen wearing a black hooded jumper and tracksuit pants.
