Second Man Charged After Boat Fire - Taren Point

A second man has been charged following a suspicious boat fire in Sydney's south.

On Saturday, 19 April 2025, officers attached to Sutherland Shire Police Area Command commenced an investigation following a fire at a marina in Mangrove Lane, Taren Point.

Police were told two men allegedly entered the marina and boarded a commercial vessel which caught fire a short time later.

Strike Force Fierasfer, comprising detecives from Sutherland Shire Police Area Command, was formed to investigate the fire.

Following inquiries, on Thursday 19 June 2025, detectives executed a search warrant at Burns Bay Road, Lane Cove and arrested a 39-year-old man.

He was taken to Gladesville Police Station where he was charged with dishonestly for gain damage property by fire/explosive, and destroy property in company use fire value greater than $5,000.

He remains before the Courts on those charges.

Following further inquiries, earlier today (Monday 11 August 2025), Strike Force Fierasfer detectives arrested a 43-year-old man at Granville Police Station.

He was charged with two offences – dishonestly for gain damage property by fire/explosive and destroy property in company – use fire.

The man was refused bail and will appear in Parramatta Local Court tomorrow (Tuesday 12 August 2025).
