Second person charged over suspicious grandstand fire at Orange

A teenage girl has been charged as investigations continue into a suspicious fire which partially destroyed a grandstand in the state's Central West.

About 2.15pm on Saturday (30 November 2019), emergency services responded to reports of a grandstand fire at a sportsground in Orange.

Fire and Rescue NSW extinguished the blaze; however, about 40% of the grandstand was destroyed.

Officers attached to Central West Police District established a crime scene and commenced inquiries.

About 9.45am yesterday (Wednesday 4 December 2019), police arrested a 15-year-old girl at a home in Orange.

She was taken to Orange Police Station and charged with destroy property in company use fire – value more than $5000, and destroy or damage property – less than $2000.

The girl was bail refused to appear before a children's court yesterday (Wednesday 4 December 2019) where she was remanded in custody to reappear before the same court on Monday (9 December 2019).

The arrest comes after a 23-year-old man from Orange was charged with destroy property in company – cause fire – value more than $5000, on Tuesday (3 December 2019).

The man appeared before Orange Local Court yesterday (Wednesday 4 December 2019), where he was remanded in custody to reappear before the same court on Monday 16 December 2019.

Investigations continue.
