Second teen charged after police officer injured in Marsfield

A second teenager has been charged after an officer was injured and two security guards were assaulted in Marsfield on Monday, NSW Police say.

About 10pm yesterday, a Dog Unit officer was patrolling the vicinity of Balaclava Road and Epping Road when he came across a person acting suspiciously.

That officer and another two officers from Ryde Local Area Command attempted to arrest the teenager. It is alleged he kicked one of the Ryde officers in the face causing him to fall and hit his head on the road.

The constable suffered serious head injuries and was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital where he remains in a serious condition.

That teenager was charged yesterday afternoon with a number of offences relating to that incident and the assault of two security guards. He will appear at a children’s court tomorrow.

Meanwhile, police have been continuing to investigate the assault of the two security guards by a number of youths which occurred at a nearby shopping centre earlier that night.

About 7.30pm today officers attended a house at Sturdee Street, Wentworthville where they arrested a 17-year-old boy and executed a search warrant.

The teenager was taken to Ryde Police Station where he was charged with robbery in company.

He was refused bail to appear at a children’s court tomorrow.

Investigations into the identity of a number of other teenagers police would like to speak to in relation to the incident are continuing,
