Preparations are on track for City of Logan's new green waste bin service starting in July.

City of Logan's new green waste bins are ready for their roll out.

The optional fortnightly service is part of Logan City Council's new waste and
recycling contract with Cleanaway, which starts on July 1.

Green waste bins are available to all residents, including tenants.

To get a green waste bin delivered in time for the first collections in early July,
residents wanting to take part in the new service must order a green bin through
Council by April 25.

This includes those residents who have previously registered an expression of
interest in the new service.

The cost of the green bin waste service is less than $1 a week for a 240-litre bin
option - the same size as red-top domestic waste and yellow-top recycling bins.

Residents can choose to have either a 140-litre bin ($46 per year), a 240-litre bin
($51 per year) or a 360-litre bin ($76 per year). A minimum commitment of 12 months is required.

Environment and Waste Chair, Deputy Mayor Jon Raven, said green bins are an
easy, convenient and affordable way to dispose of garden waste.

"We recycle the garden waste into compost which is great for the environment and
keeps that waste out of landfill," Cr Raven said.

They will be collected fortnightly on the opposite week to recycling bin collection.

Thew new green bin waste service will have no impact on existing waste and
recycling collections.

Those who order a green waste bin before April 25 have the opportunity to win one of
25 Bunnings Warehouse $200 vouchers. Terms and conditions apply.

To register go to: logan.qld.gov.au/greenwastebin or call 3412 3412.
