Securing a better future for our Treasury Buildings

Peter Gutwein,Treasurer & Minister for the Environment, Parks and Heritage

The Hodgman majority Liberal Government is determined to improve public access of the Treasury Building and Precinct and enhance the heritage aspects of these magnificent buildings.

While the site has served government well for many decades, it is no longer suited to modern and efficient office accommodation.

The site can be so much more for the people of Tasmania, and PricewaterhouseCoopers has been appointed to support the Government with specialist advice throughout the upcoming Expression of Interest process for future uses of the site. The community will also continue to be consulted throughout the EOI process.

The Expressions of Interest will seek adaptive reuse that can:

  • provide better public access, where none is currently available;
  • take fuller advantage of its prime CBD location and heritage character; and,
  • better conserve its heritage for future generations.
