Selected price indexes (SPI) provide monthly price changes for a selection of goods and services that New Zealand households purchase.
Key facts
The following table sets out the key percentage changes in monthly and annual prices. We compare October 2025 with September 2025 for the monthly percentage change, and October 2025 with October 2024 for the annual percentage change.

Additional imputation
In the November 2025 month we have imputed a higher than usual proportion of data collected in stores. This month approximately 25 percent of prices collected in store were imputed, compared with less than 5 percent in a typical month.
The imputation method (overall mean imputation) means that within the lowest-level sub-item index, missing prices are imputed with the average movement from the other collected prices in that category. This method ensures that we capture an appropriate price change for the missing items, and we are confident in the robustness of this method. Restaurant meals and ready-to-eat food, alcohol, and meat prices were mainly impacted by this imputation.
This was due to a one-off system issue, and we expect this to be resolved for the Selected price indexes: November 2025 release, which will be published on 16 December 2025.
Update on flow of rental properties measures
Selected price indexes: November 2025 to be released on 16 December 2025 will include the flow of rental properties measures (national and regional).
This data has not been included since November 2024 as work was needed to integrate the data to meet customer expectations, following an update to the Ministry for Business, Innovation and Employment's tenancy bond-lodgement system.
