Senior staff appointed to the Gold Coast District to ensure certainty and stability

Commissioner Ian Stewart has today announced relieving arrangements for senior roles in the South Eastern Region to ensure certainty, stability and strong leadership in the lead up to the Commonwealth Games, Queensland Police say.

Chief Superintendent Marty Mickelson from the Logan District has taken over as Gold Coast District Officer until further notice.

He will be supported by Superintendent Craig Hanlon as the Assistant District Officer – Crime Services and Acting Superintendent David Cuskelly from the North Brisbane District as Assistant District Officer – Patrol Services.

Detective Acting Superintendent Marc Hogan will relieve in the Assistant District Office – Crime Services role for a short period while Superintendent Hanlon is on leave.

Superintendent Ben Marcus – currently at the Commissioner’s Office – will take over Chief Superintendent Mickelson’s role as Logan District Officer until further notice when he returns from leave.

Superintendent Ben Hanbidge will relieve as Logan District Officer until Superintendent Marcus returns.

"This has been a difficult period for officers and staff of the Gold Coast District and I don’t shy away from acknowledging that," Commissioner Stewart said.

"The QPS has provided full cooperation to the Crime and Corruption Commission during their investigation, which has focused on officers of the Gold Coast District, and we will continue to do so.

"Today’s announcement is about giving certainty to the region and provides Assistant Commissioner Brian Codd with the support he needs to continue providing strong leadership for the men and women of the entire South Eastern Region.

"As well, from October Deputy Commissioner Steve Gollschewski will assume overall operational command of the policing response for the Commonwealth Games.

"His regular presence on the Gold Coast will also provide significant leadership support to the South Eastern Region command team until the conclusion of the games in late April 2018.

"I value and am grateful for the good work our officers on the Gold Coast do on a daily basis to ensure the safety and security of the community.

"The challenges and complexities we face daily in providing world-class policing services to our community can only be overcome by dedicated and professional staff – and I know that is a challenge they will continue to face head on," Commissioner Stewart said.
