Seniors Luncheon Dancing Success

Almost 2000 of Townsville's finest will boogie to Dirty Dancing over the next two days for Townsville City Council's much-anticipated Seniors luncheon.

Acting Mayor Ann-Maree Greaney said the free event was a fully booked out in 2025 and celebrates the contributions of Townsville's seniors to the community.

"Our annual Seniors Luncheon is open to all Townsville residents aged 65 and over and sees those in attendance enjoy a catered sit-down lunch and live entertainment from Townsville's finest local talent." Cr Greaney said.

"For some of our residents, this annual Council initiative is the biggest social event on the calendar, and it is the perfect way for the city to pay tribute to the senior community.

"Both councillors and council staff volunteer to run the event, it's always a great day with dancing, some great music and certainly lots of laughs all while giving back."

The Luncheon is known for its themed fun, with this year organisers taking guests back to the 1960s for a bit of Dirty Dancing fancy dress.

Councillor Greaney said Council offered luncheon attendees free transport from their residences through service providers TransitCare, Comlink and Townsville Taxis when booking a ticket to the luncheon through the TicketShop.

"We wanted to make it as easy as possible for our seniors to have a great day out, and we know things like transport can be a barrier for our older residents which is why we offer transport options when booking a ticket," she said.

The free luncheon at Townsville Stadium runs on Thursday 28 and Friday 29 August 2025 and caters to around 1000 guests each day.
