Serious assault charges in South Brisbane, QLD

Police have charged a 28-year-old man with a number of offences following an incident at a medical facility in South Brisbane yesterday evening, Queensland Police say.

It will be alleged the man attended the reception area of the premises at around 7.40pm and due to his behaviour was refused service.

Hospital security staff were notified and it is alleged when they approached the man he produced a knife and threatened them. It is also alleged that he then threw a chair and a coffee table in the direction of two security staff.

It’s further alleged another security staff member has arrived to assist and the three staff members were able to corral the man into a corner. The man then complied with their demands for him to drop the knife and was restrained by security staff until police arrived.

He was then arrested by police and later charged.

A 28-year-old Bellbird Park man was charged with two counts of serious assault of a public officer, and one count each of wilful damage, going armed so as to cause fear, fail to dispose of a syringe, possess a utensil for drug use and possess a drug utensil that had been used.

He was refused bail and is due to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court today.
