Serious crash on Blessington Road at White Hills, TAS

Police and emergency services attended a serious crash between a fully laden log truck and car at White Hills earlier this morning, Tasmania Police say.

Around 7:00am police and emergency services attended the scene on Blessington Road where it’s believed the driver of a Holden Commodore, a man in his 20’s from Ravenswood, was travelling south when he ran wide on a sweeping left hand bend, crossing over the double white lines into the path of the log truck travelling north.

The car hit the front right hand side of the truck and spun down the road causing another motorists to take evasive action to avoid the oncoming car. The car received substantial damage to the front driver’s side, trapping the driver inside.

The truck driver attended to the car and extinguished a small fire which was caused by the crash, and provided first aid to the driver.

The driver was cut free from the wreckage and taken to the Launceston General Hospital by Ambulance Tasmania with suspected leg fractures. The truck driver was not injured.

"It’s lucky that this crash wasn’t more serious. We ask that people take care driving, particularly on the wet roads we’re currently experiencing and to drive to the conditions," said Acting Sergeant David Eaton.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to contact Tasmania Police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
