Serious injury crash, NSW

Inquiries continue into a serious injury crash at Macquarie Park today, NSW Police say.

About 4.30pm today, emergency services were called to Macquarie Pass on the Illawarra Highway, following reports of a crash between a motorbike and a van.

The male motorcycle rider, aged 57, was taken to Shellharbour Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The pillion passenger, a woman aged 57, was airlifted to St George Hospital in a serious condition with head injuries and fractures.

The male driver of the Volkswagen van, aged 44, was uninjured. He was taken to Shellharbour Hospital for mandatory blood and urine tests.

A 43-year-old female passenger as well as five children aged between two and sixteen years old in that vehicle were also uninjured.

Officers from Lake Illawarra Crash Investigation Unit attended the scene and conducted inquiries.

The Illawarra Highway was closed for two hours while the investigation took place.

Inquiries into the incident continue.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers.
