Serious rail incident at Sellheim, QLD

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the discovery of a seriously injured man after he most likely fell from a train east of Charters Towers this afternoon, Queensland Police say.

Just after 3pm, police were advised that the injured man had been located in a rail corridor at Sellheim, approximately one kilometre west of the level crossing at School Street.

Preliminary investigations suggest the 18-year-old Queenton man – who was not a crew member or a passenger – was not supposed to be on the freight train which was travelling from Townsville to Charters Towers.

The man was airlifted to Townsville Hospital for treatment of severe leg injuries.

Police attended and secured the scene.

The Forensic Crash Unit will look into the matter.
