Seven New Overtaking Lanes between Bowen and Ayr, Bruce Boasts

Dept of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications

Seven new overtaking lanes have been completed on the Bruce Highway between Bowen and Ayr, on Queensland's north coast, to improve road safety and efficiency.

The lanes, including four northbound and three southbound, have increased the number of safe overtaking opportunities along sections of this 115-kilometre stretch, reducing travel times and improving traffic flow.

The projects also delivered safety improvements such as widening the road, installing wide centre line treatments, and removing roadside hazards at four locations including West Euri to Abbott Point Road, Armstrong Creek, Aaron Creek to Slater Creek, and Plain Creek.

The upgrade was delivered via four projects totalling $42.39 million and fully funded by the Australian Government under the Bruce Highway Upgrade Program - Overtaking Lanes Package.
