Shade strategy for playgrounds

A five-year strategy to provide shade at playgrounds in the Armidale region has been presented to Council for consideration for its 2020/2021 Budget.

The playground shade program, to introduce or replace shade facilities at a range of playgrounds in Armidale and Guyra, was presented to last Wednesday's Ordinary Council meeting.

If adopted in the Budget, the $332,000 program will provide seven new shade structures and replace two existing structures, complemented by plantings of shade trees. It prioritises the provision of shade at regional and district category playgrounds in prominent locations.

A report to last week's meeting said while a 2019 audit found all the existing shade structures were in good condition, the provision of shade is an important consideration in any construction of new playgrounds or renewal of existing facilities.
