Grants of up to $15,000 and in kind support are on offer to help eligible organisations share Australia's maritime history.
The Australian National Maritime Museum (ANMM) administers the Maritime Museums of Australia Project Support Scheme (MMAPSS). Grants of up to $15,000 are provided to eligible organisations to help preserve and display objects of national and historical maritime significance related to ocean-going as well as inland river-based activities:
- funds can be used in a variety of ways, from displaying historical artefacts, to collecting and conserving them, delivering education and public programs, and engaging experts to provide specialist training to staff and volunteers
- internship funding of up to $3,000 is also available for staff and volunteers from regional organisations to increase standards of practice in caring for and managing maritime collections
- in-kind support may be provided by the ANMM as an alternative to monetary assistance, if this is considered more appropriate.
In support of organisations affected by the summer of 2019–2020bushfires across many parts of Australia, a priority weighting will be given by the MMAPSS Selection Committee to applications submitted by organisations affected by the fires.
Applicants from organisations that have not been affected by the bushfires are strongly encouraged to apply as usual.
Administered by the ANMM since 1995, MMAPSS has provided more than $1.8 million to support in excess of 440 projects across Australia and over 50 people have received internships.
