Sharing the history of the sea

Under the Maritime Museums of Australia Project Support Scheme (MMAPSS), organisations can apply for grants to help preserve and display objects of national and historical maritime significance.

Funds can be used in a variety of ways, from displaying historical artefacts, to collecting them, conserving and delivering education and public programs.

The funding can also be used to help staff and volunteers from regional organisations attend courses so they can learn specific skills to care for and manage maritime collections.

Internship funding of up to $3,000 is available to help develop museology – the study of museums –to increase standards of practice in caring for and managing maritime collections.

Administered by the Australian National Maritime Museum since 1995, the scheme has provided more than $1.7 million to support more than 400 projects across Australia.

Applications close 31 March 2019.
