Fatality Free Friday

Empty shoes will serve as a sobering reminder of lives lost in Logan next week.

One hundred pairs of shoes, representing those who have died on Australian roads, will be on display at the Grand Plaza Shopping Centre at Browns Plains on Friday, May 31, from 9.30am until 2pm.

The shoes will be the centrepiece of Logan's Fatality Free Friday event, which is part of the annual nationwide campaign that aims to improve driver attitudes towards road safety and reduce fatal traffic crashes.

There were 16 people killed on Logan roads last year, with most of the fatalities attributed to driver distraction or inattention.

Logan City Council's Fatality Free Friday event is part of the SafeRoads4Logan campaign, run in partnership with the Department of Transport and Main Roads and the Queensland Police Service.

Attendees can get road safety information and ask questions to police and experts at the event.

They will also be invited to make a pledge to commit to road safety by:

  • Always being fit to drive
  • Stay focussed on the road
  • Scan the road ahead
  • Keep a safe distance
  • Drive to suit conditions

Drivers can also take the road safety pledge at arsf.com.au/take-the-pledge
