Shopping Centre Operation Targets Anti-social Acts

Six people will face court after a police operation focusing on public safety was conducted at a southern suburbs shopping centre.

On Wednesday 10 December, officers from Sturt Police Station Response Teams conducted a plain-clothes operation using metal detectors to search people suspected of carrying weapons.

Between 9.30am and 2pm, 51 people were searched with officers locating a flick knife, drug paraphernalia, and they also arrested one man who had an active warrant.

Police reported a 46-year-old Oaklands Park man after a search found that he was allegedly buying Christmas presents with two stolen credit cards.

Four other people were reported for various offences including drinking in a dry zone, breach of bail and carry offensive weapon.

Police will continue to target those who pose a risk to public safety in open areas such as shopping centres throughout the summer holidays.

Anyone who witnesses anti-social behaviour is asked to call the Police Assistance Line immediately on 131444.
