Show goes on - Boroondara Eisteddfod now online

Council is delighted to announce this year's Boroondara Eisteddfod will be staged digitally, for the first time, from April to June 2020. The Boroondara Eisteddfod is a much-loved community event that showcases incredible talent from musicians of all ages in the Boroondara community.

This year's competition will take place online, allowing entrants to participate in the Eisteddfod virtually, with audiences from the community viewing and listening to performances online.

City of Boroondara Mayor Cr Cynthia Watson said, "Sadly, Eisteddfods across Australia have been postponed or cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The City of Boroondara considered alternative ways to deliver this event to our community and we decided this was an opportunity to be innovative and share this important annual event with a wider audience. So the show will go on, digitally".

"Council is excited to deliver this event online, and we hope that it will provide a meaningful focus for many in our community, particularly our school-aged entrants, during an otherwise uncertain time," said Cr Watson.

Entrants who usually performed in front of adjudicators at the Hawthorn Arts Centre will be able to upload a video of their performance to the newly created digital submission platform for review. Adjudicators will have 72 hours to judge the entries.

Results will be published online within one week of the section submission date and selected entries will be broadcast through our website to our audience.

"We can't wait to see and hear the performances from our Boroondara Eisteddfod entrants. Our community is pleased the show will go on in 2020," said Cr Watson.
