The Honourable Maninder Sidhu, Minister of International Trade, met this week with Piyush Goyal, Minister of Commerce and Industry of India, in New Delhi on the margin of the Team Canada Trade Mission to India. This was the 9th meeting between Minister Sidhu and Minister Goyal since May 2025 reflecting continued high-level engagement to advance trade and investment priorities.
During their meeting, the ministers discussed the ongoing negotiations toward a Canada-India comprehensive economic partnership agreement. Building on the outcomes of the fifth negotiating round, held last week in Ottawa, the two countries are intensifying their efforts to conclude a mutually beneficial agreement.
Minister Sidhu thanked Minister Goyal for supporting the Team Canada Trade Mission, which is bringing Canadian businesses to Mumbai and Bengaluru to pursue commercial agreements and build new partnerships with Indian businesses. These efforts support Canada's goals of deepening economic engagement under its Indo-Pacific Strategy, as well as doubling two-way trade with India by 2030 to a value of $70 billion.
