Significant cannabis growhouse located in Heathwood, QLD

Police located almost $850,000 worth of cannabis plants during a search of a Heathwood address yesterday afternoon, Queensland Police say.

As a result of information from members of the public, detectives from the Drug and Serious Crime Group executed a search warrant at the Heathwood address.

On entering the two level unoccupied property, detectives located an active and sophisticated cannabis hydroponic house containing over 170 mature cannabis plants.

Detectives identified the offenders had stolen electricity to mask their activities. The rented property had sustained significant damage and police continue their enquiries to identify the offenders.

"We are seeing this type of hydroponic setup more often, with criminals paying cash to rent directly from the property owner. The offenders have caused tens of thousands of dollars’ worth of damage to the property, breaking through doors and walls in order to grow the cannabis.

"Members of the public who seek to rent their properties should be extremely wary of renting their properties out privately and should consider taking the appropriate steps to protect your property," Detective Inspector Lance Vercoe of the Drug and Serious Crime Group said.
