Simon West formally accepts role of Division 4 Councillor

A fresh face is welcomed as Simon West was sworn in as an appointed councillor of Isaac Regional Council for Division 4.

Cr West read and signed the Declaration of Office in an official ceremony today at the Moranbah Council Chambers in front of Mayor Anne Baker, CEO Gary Stevenson and other executive leaders.

Cr West said he applied to be a councillor as a community minded person who likes to be involved.

"I saw it as a terrific opportunity to be part of a council that is going in the right direction," Cr West said.

"I would like to understand more about the challenges that local business face and the community in general over the next 12 months as an appointed councillor."

Mayor Anne Baker said Cr West was appointed unanimously by the council and brings with him fresh ideas and an appreciation for the wider Isaac community.

"We are thrilled to welcome Cr West to the position of Division 4 councillor," Mayor Baker said.

"It is wonderful to see Cr West and his family ready to make a commitment to improving the region through his dedication and work to the council."

Cr West is the President of the Goonyella Riverside CFMMEU and brings with him a wide background of experience, and encourages everyone he meets in his new role to say hello.

"If I could say one thing to the Isaac community, it is not to be afraid to talk to me. If you've got an issue, come and have a chat."

Mayor Baker welcomed Cr West on behalf of the councillors.

"Cr West is a true representation of the pure people power that our region embodies, and we are excited he has decided to put his skills and knowledge to helping the community."
