Single vehicle crash on the Brooker Highway at Claremont, TAS

A 67 year old Battery Point man is in the Royal Hobart Hospital in a serious condition as the result of a single vehicle crash on the Brooker Highway at Claremont on Monday 19 September 2016 at 1.20pm, Tasmania Police say.

At this time the Battery Point man was driving a fawn coloured Jaguar sedan southbound on the Brooker Highway.  He was the only occupant of the vehicle.  In the vicinity of the pedestrian overpass the vehicle has veered to the left up onto and over the grass verge on the eastern side.  The front of the vehicle collided with a concrete pylon supporting the overpass.

The driver was trapped in the vehicle.  After extrication by emergency service personnel he was conveyed to the Royal Hobart Hospital by road ambulance.

Southbound traffic was reduced to one lane whilst the crash was investigated.

The investigating officer, Constable Adam Weston of Glenorchy Police would like to hear from any member of the public who may have witnessed the crash or seen the vehicle travelling southbound prior to the incident.
