Smithton man caught speeding 44km over limit in Wiltshite

An 18-year-old Smithton man has been fined and disqualified from driving for six months after being caught speeding 44km over the limit in Wiltshire last night.

Around 10.30pm last night, police on the Bass Highway at Wiltshire detected a white Commodore sedan travelling at 144km/h in a 100km/h zone.

Police intercepted the vehicle which was being driven by an 18-year-old Smithton man who was the holder of a P2 licence.

He was disqualified from driving for three months and issued an infringement notice for six demerit points and $692.75.

"Police remind all motorists to drive to the speed limit and according to the conditions on their licence," said Sergeant Lee-Anne Walters.

"Inexperienced driving and speeding is a dangerous combination of behaviours that puts the driver at the very real risk of seriously injuring or killing themselves or someone else.

"I urge all motorists to drive to the conditions – we want everyone to get to their destination safely."
