South coast nanny charged over child pornography images

A  man appeared at Port Kembla Local Court today on charges over the alleged possession of child pornography images.

On Tuesday 21 July 2015, police came into possession of a mobile phone which allegedly contained images and video of child abuse material, NSW Police said.

Detectives attached to Wollongong Child Abuse Squad conducted inquiries, and executed a search warrant at a home unit at Albion Park Rail, on Friday 14 August 2015.

A number of computers and electronic devices were seized and are currently undergoing forensic examination.

Following extensive inquiries, a 21-year-old man was arrested at Wollongong Police Station yesterday, and subsequently charged with possess child abuse material and use carriage service to access child pornography material.

The Illawarra Mercury reported the man, who once worked for local childcare provider Big Fat Smile on a casual basis, is alleged to have downloaded 537 photos and 1 seven-minute video over recent months depicting  “horrendous” sexual exploitation of boys as young as two years’ old. His occupation was shown as "private nanny" in court documents.

He has been refused bail and faces a jail sentence if convicted.
