Sparks fly during traffic arrest, SA

A man has been arrested at Callington following an unusual sighting on the South Eastern Freeway last night, according to SA Police.

Just before 6.30pm, Saturday 20 May, police were called to the South Eastern Freeway after members of the public reported a car heading toward Adelaide driving erratically with sparks flying from underneath.

Police located the car stopped on the side of the road, and after closer inspection found it had been driving on three wheels for over 11 kilometres, the back left tyre was down to the rim.

The driver, a 29-year-old man from Murray Bridge was submitted to a breath test which returned a positive result of 0.212. The man was arrested and charged with drink driving and drive without due care.

He was issued a 12 month loss of licence and his car impounded for 28 days. He will appear in the Mount Barker Magistrates Court on 5 July.
