City of Ryde Mayor Trenton Brown formally acknowledged and thanked outgoing NSW SES Ryde Commander Keiran Gibson at Council's 22 July 2025 ordinary meeting.
Mr Gibson has held the voluntary role since 2007 and has made the difficult decision to step down from his position due to increasing work commitments and a busy family life.
"Throughout his tenure, Keiran has demonstrated outstanding commitment and leadership, working closely with the City of Ryde and fostering a strong partnership that has contributed significantly to our community," said Mayor Brown.
"When Keiran assumed the role in 2007, the unit comprised of approximately 60 members; today, the volunteer base has grown to 110 members, a testament to his dedication and effective leadership.
"Notably, Keiran was the youngest person ever appointed as Commander at just 24 years of age and is the longest-serving Commander in the unit's 45-year history."
Mayor Brown said Mr Gibson's numerous awards and citations were a wonderful recognition of his service and contributions to the City of Ryde community. Mr Gibson was joined by his family at Council Chambers, where he was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation and a trophy.
"While stepping down from his role as Commander, Keiran will continue to be involved in NSW SES Ryde as a general member, and we look forward to his ongoing support in ensuring the continued growth and prosperity of the unit," Mayor Brown said.
"On behalf of the Council and the community, I wish Keiran the very best in his future endeavours and sincerely thank him for his untiring service and dedication."
