Speeding driver nabbed in Laverton North

A 38-year-old man was allegedly caught driving more than double the speed limit in Laverton North 2 February.

Westgate Highway Patrol officers were on patrol when they observed a Volkswagen Golf allegedly doing 139km/hr in a 60km/hr zone along Doherty Road about 9.30pm.

Officers pulled over the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, who underwent a preliminary oral fluid test which allegedly indicated a positive result.

The driver is expected to be charged on summons with a number of driving offences including speeding in manor dangerous and drug driving offences.

His vehicle was also impounded for a period of 30 days, at a cost of $995.
