Speeding P-plate drivers caught; licences suspended

Three P1 drivers have been detected travelling up to almost 80km/h above the speed limit in separate incidents across NSW at the weekend.

An 18-year-old Georges Hall man had his licence confiscated and suspended for six months after he was detected allegedly driving at almost 80km/h above the speed limit at Moorebank yesterday.

Officers attached to Liverpool Highway Patrol were conducting speed-enforcement duties on Newbridge Road about 6.50am (Saturday 28 November 2020), when they detected a Mercedes A200 being driven at 149km/h in the 70km/h zone.

They stopped the P1 licence holder and issued him with a Court Attendance Notice for drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous, and exceed speed limit over 45km/h. He is due to appear in Liverpool Local Court on Wednesday 20 January 2021.

In a separate incident about an hour later, a 17-year-old girl was detected allegedly driving at 50km/h above the speed limit on the Mid North Coast.

Officers attached to Mid North Coast Highway Patrol were conducting speed-enforcement duties on the Pacific Highway, Eungai Creek, about 7.50am (Saturday 28 November 2020), when they detected a Kia being driven at 125km/h in the 100km/h zone.

Police activated lights and sirens in an attempt to stop the vehicle; however, the driver allegedly accelerated reaching speeds of up to 140km/h before she stopped.

She's been issued with an infringement for the offence of P1 driver exceed 90km/h – over 45km/h and her licence has been confiscated and suspended for six months. The TIN carries a fine of $2520 and six demerit points. P1 licence holders are limited to 90km/h.

About two hours later the same day, a 17-year-old boy was stopped after being detected allegedly travelling at 134km/h in 60km/h area at West Pymble.

Officers attached to Kuring-Gai Highway Patrol were conducting speed-enforcement duties on The Comenarra Parkway about 10.50am (Saturday 28 November 2020), when they detected a Suzuki Vitara being driven at 134km/h in the 60km/h zone.

The driver was issued a Court Attendance Notice for the offence of drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous, and P1 exceed speed more than 45km/h.

He is due to appear in Hornsby Local Court on Thursday 14 January 2021. His licence was also suspended.
