Sports fans and families heading to Sydney Olympic Park are strongly advised to plan their trip and utilise public transport ahead of multiple major events this weekend.
About 140,000 people will descend on the precinct tomorrow when the Sydney Swans and Greater Western Sydney Giants hit off at Spotless Stadium, the Western Sydney Wanderers take on Arsenal FC at ANZ Stadium, families head to Disney On Ice at Qudos Bank Arena and exhibitors bring The Man Cave Experience to Sydney Showground.
General duties officers from across South West Metropolitan Region will be assisted by specialist police to ensure the safety and security of all officials, players and spectators before, during and after the respective events.
Disney On Ice begins at 6pm, while gates open at Spotless Stadium from 3.35pm with the game hitting off at 7.25pm and the game ending at 10pm.
ANZ Stadium will open its gates at 6pm with the game kicking off at 8pm, which is expected to finish shortly before 10pm.
South West Metropolitan Regional Commander Assistant Commissioner Frank Mennilli urged fans and families to plan their journey ahead of time and keep the atmosphere at all events family-friendly.
"There will be significant crowds heading to Olympic Park at the same time for the events so we’re urging everyone to allow extra travel time, be mindful of your own safety and those around you, and don’t spoil the fun for others," Assistant Commissioner Mennilli said.
"Police have been working closely with security officials and the relevant organisations to maintain a safe and enjoyable atmosphere for everyone involved, including families.
"Sporting fans are reminded to be on their best behaviour because if you choose to drink too much and misbehave, you risk facing criminal charges, fines, ejection from the ground and/or banning notices," Assistant Commissioner Mennilli said.
Sporting spectators are reminded that public transport to and from the match is included in their ticket price
"Both games are an integrated ticketing event, so we encourage fans to leave the car at home and use public transport," Assistant Commissioner Mennilli said.
"Officers from Police Transport Command will be involved in the police operation patrolling trains and buses to ensure everyone is travelling to and from Sydney Olympic Park safely."
Anyone travelling on the T3 Bankstown Line, T1 North Shore Line and T1 Northern Line should be aware trackwork is taking place, with buses replacing trains.
Sydney Olympic Park Major Event Buses will be running on all routes, with additional services running routes that travel through areas affected by trackwork.
Anyone who does decide to drive should prepare for delays, allow plenty of time and be aware parking will be limited to pre-booked only.
"If you must drive be aware you need to pre-book your parking, and expect significant delays – particularly when leaving the precinct at the end of the night," Assistant Commissioner Mennilli said.
"I’d also like to remind both drivers and pedestrians to please be aware of your surroundings, slow down as you make your way out of the area and only cross the roadway at designated traffic control points."
Special event clearways will also be in place across various roads within Sydney Olympic Park.
Drivers are reminded to check signs carefully before parking as vehicles left in special event clearways will be towed and fines apply.
