Spot Check Inspection Conducted at Portsmouth Border Force

Commenting on this pilot of a new way of working, the Independent Chief Inspector of Borders and Immigration, David Neal, said:

In today's dynamic environment, having the tools to work in an agile way, with the ability to adapt to emerging trends and the unexpected, is not only an advantage, but an imperative.

Spot check inspections will allow us to inspect areas of the Home Office in a more flexible and responsive way, identifying issues in real time and, therefore, supporting the Home Office to drive improvements more efficiently.

This inspection is in addition to the standard ICIBI inspection methodology and complements the published annual inspection programme.

The inspection team will visit the port today, 29 August 2023, and the scope of this inspection will focus on the efficiency and effectiveness of Border Force operations.

The inspection team anticipates reporting to the Home Secretary in September 2023.
