A sea of concentrating faces breaks into laughter and applause as the final beat of the music lands - another joyful moment at Bayside's Modern Line Dancing group.
"I have two left feet, but I still enjoy it" laughs Mary, perfectly capturing the group's easy-going vibe. "We might look old" adds another dancer with a grin, "but we're young at heart".
The thriving group has been going for over 3 years and has expanded to four weekly sessions, facilitated by ever-smiling Mindy.
Sessions are held on:
Tuesday 1.30pm - 3.30pm (beginners) at Brighton Senior Citizen's Club (23 Durrant St, Brighton)
Wednesday 6.30pm - 7.15pm (beginners) at Brighton Senior Citizen's Club
Wednesday 7.30pm - 8.30pm (improvers) at Brighton Senior Citizen's Club
Thursday 1.00pm to 2.30pm for (beginners and improvers) at Hampton community centre (14 Willis St Hampton)
Friday 11.15am to 12.45pm for (beginners and improvers) at Highett Neighbourhood House (2 Livingston St Highett)
Beginners are very welcome, with Mindy providing a supportive environment. "Mindy is wonderful, she always smiles even though I'm sure I'm getting the steps wrong" says one happy participant. More experienced dancers keep their eyes open for participants who might be struggling and patiently help them master the steps.
Stopping for a break, participants enthusiastically share the various benefits they have experienced:
"It has been great for my memory"
"The classes have helped me a lot mentally and physically"
"Modern Line Dancing with Mindy helps me keep fit and gives me something fun to do".
And you're never too old to join in - "I'm turning 91 soon" says Beryl, who started line dancing at 80.
