Spring Clean-Up Weekend Preps Residents for Summer

Horsham Rural City Council is encouraging residents to make the most of a free green waste disposal weekend this October as part of a community-wide Spring Clean-Up Weekend initiative.

The event will be held on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 October and aims to support residents to undertake seasonal pruning, vegetation maintenance and general property clean-up ahead of summer. The initiative promotes safer, more accessible neighbourhoods while helping residents prepare for the fire season.

Mayor Cr Brian Klowss said spring was the ideal time for residents to tackle outdoor maintenance projects and prepare their properties for the warmer months ahead.
"Spring is the perfect time to tidy up around the home, prune back vegetation and prepare for the warmer months ahead. We're encouraging residents to take advantage of this free disposal opportunity as part of their spring clean-up activities," Cr Klowss said.
Council is encouraging residents to check vegetation growth around their properties, particularly where overhanging branches or plants may affect footpaths and accessibility for pedestrians, families with prams and people using mobility aids. Maintaining vegetation helps ensure public spaces remain safe and accessible for everyone.
The free green waste disposal weekend will be available at the Horsham, Quantong and Mt Zero transfer stations. Residents can dispose of up to one cubic metre of green waste free of charge, equivalent to a standard 6x4 trailer load. Loads exceeding one cubic metre will incur charges on the excess volume only.
"Well-maintained properties help create safer, more attractive neighbourhoods and support preparation for the fire season. This initiative makes it easier for residents to undertake important maintenance while disposing of green waste responsibly," Cr Klowss said.
Residents are encouraged to start planning their spring clean-up now by identifying pruning, vegetation maintenance and other outdoor jobs around their property and taking advantage of the free disposal weekend to get the job done.
