Spring Clean Without Sending It To Landfill

Woman cleaning out wooden boxes in a workshop

Spring cleaning has a way of uncovering things you'd forgotten about: half-used paint tins, drawers full of old batteries, clothes you haven't worn in years, and that mystery cable you saved in case it belonged to something important.

As you're sorting, take a moment to see if it can be donated, repaired, reused or recycled.

Repair cafes and clothing exchanges

Give items a second life at a Repair Café, one of our future clothing exchanges or a community swap group.

Take to our recycling centre

The Monash Recycling and Waste Centre also takes paint, batteries, broken electronic items, cords and cables.

Many items are accepted free or at discounted rates for residents with their proof of address.

Detox Your Home for chemicals

If you find household chemicals while cleaning your garage or cupboards, don't pour it down the drain or put in a bin.

Drop them off at a free Detox Your Home event, run by the Victorian Government.

Household chemicals can explode, catch fire, mix with other substances, and pollute our waterways and environment.

You can attend any Detox Your Home event in any council area.

The next Detox Your Home in Monash (Notting Hill) will be in May 2027, with bookings opening in March.
