Spring Creek Oval Reconstruction Moves One Step Closer

The much-anticipated reconstruction of the Spring Creek Oval has moved one step closer, with Council last night awarding the tender for the project to Victorian Sports group Pty Ltd.

The oval has reached the end of its useful life and, with increased use over the years, is no longer able to provide a fit for purpose surface year-round.

Works are expected to begin in October 2025 and be completed by March 2026. Oval turf works are anticipated to be completed by December 2025, allowing three months for the establishment of turf ahead of the 2026 football season. Other works including line marking, and bench seating will be installed in January 2026. The oval area will be unable for community use during this time.

Cr Joel Grist said the project was a welcome investment in one of the community's most used recreation spaces.

"It's great to see this project get underway. The oval gets so much use, not just from the cricket and football clubs, but also from the community who use it informally throughout the week."

"Thank you to the Torquay Cricket Club for relocating their matches for the 2025/2026 season to make way for the reconstruction. Their support has been vital in helping this project progress."

"Once this reconstruction is complete the oval will provide a high-quality, all-weather surface that benefits the whole community for years to come."

A public tender process was conducted in accordance with Council's Procurement Policy. Nine suppliers submitted tenders for the project, which were assessed against pre-determined criteria.

The reconstruction will deliver a safer and more resilient playing surface, including:

  • a new oval surface and sub surface
  • upgraded irrigation
  • improved oval drainage
  • fencing, minor pavement and kerb works

The Spring Creek Oval reconstruction is part of the 2025/2026 Asset Renewal Program.

The Spring Creek Recreation Reserve change room upgrade will also be completed over summer. The timing of both of these projects is being coordinated to reduce the impact to the community.
