St Albans attempted armed robbery arrest

Police have arrested a 38-year-old man following an attempted armed robbery in St Albans yesterday, Victoria Police say.

It is believed a 73-year-old St Albans woman was carrying shopping bags and walking along Alfrieda Street when she was approached by an unknown man who made demands for cash about 11.40am.

An unknown male witness attempted to intervene and assist the victim.

It is alleged the offender then hit the woman with a metal pole.

Investigators are keen to speak to the witness and have released an image of a man that may be able to assist with their enquiries.

A St Albans man was arrested today at a St Albans address and is currently assisting police with their enquiries.

The investigation is on-going and anyone with further information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
