A crime scene guard has been posted at the scene of a fire in St Kilda last night, Victoria Police say.
Neighbours noticed the blaze at the Spencer Street house and contacted emergency services just after 10pm.
No one was inside the house, which was under renovation, at the time and the fire was brought under control by MFB crews.
An arson chemist will attend the scene in the morning to establish the cause of the fire.
The house was extensively damaged.
