Science & Technology Australia will hold its annual general meeting (AGM) on 13 November 2025.
This year, we welcome nominations for two Board Director positions
The nominations committee of the STA Board has provided the following advice to members
The nominations committee has conducted a thorough review of the Board's skills matrix and identified the following key skills as highly desirable to complement the existing capabilities on the Board and guide the organisation into the future:
- Business development
- Design and delivery of professional development programs
- Research commercialisation
- Indigenous knowledges
The Board recognises the importance of diversity in its composition, including gender, cultural background and professional experience. We encourage applications from individuals who can contribute to this diversity.
In 2025 we are particularly calling for nominees with Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander background.
In addition to these priority areas, the following core skills and knowledge are valuable in nominees:
- Strategic thinking and planning;
- Education and training;
- Leadership in the STEM sector;
- Financial literacy and acumen;
- Risk management and compliance; and
- Legal expertise.
It is not expected that any single nominee possesses all the identified skills. Candidates are asked to clearly articulate in their applications which of these skills and experiences they can bring to the Board, providing specific examples where possible.

To be eligible to serve as an STA Board Director, you must be a member or employee of an STA member organisation. A full list of eligible organisations is here.
