Stacey feels at home at Mater

Mater

Stacey Gleeson has more connections to Mater than you could count on one hand.

The mum of four has just begun her Certificate III in Pathology Collection with Mater Education, one of 34 students who started last week.

Stacey said she feels like she's at home.

"I had three of my children here and I was also born here," she said.

"My mum was an Enrolled Nurse here at Mater for 15 years. When I was in my 20s I used to come to the hospital in my mum's lunch break and hang out with her in the tea room.

"So I've decided to come back to the hospital where mum worked. She's also given me her fob watch to wear which is special.

"My step dad worked here as well as a Clinical Nurse and that's where he and mum first became friends."

Stacey, who has worked as a counsellor, massage therapist and beauty therapist, said she's looking forward to the 15-week course at Mater's South Brisbane campus.

"I want to work here at the hospital after I finish. I love everyone and it's friendly," she said.

"I've been working as a psychologist for the last three years but I'd like to help the body instead of the mind."
