Standing In Support With Our Jewish Victorian Community

  • Premier

The Andrews Labor Government is improving security measures at the Beth Weizmann Jewish Community Centre so members can continue practising their faith and culture without fear.

Premier Daniel Andrews visited the centre in Caulfield today to announce a further $500,000 for security upgrades, including additional fortification works.

Owned and operated by the Zionist Council of Australia, the centre is home to 23 Jewish organisations and plays a pivotal role in the Jewish Victorian community.

The new funding will help make the centre even more secure and comes on top of a $1 million grant that was allocated through the Security Infrastructure Fund last year.

Over the past several years, the Labor Government has been working with the Jewish Community Council of Victoria and the Community Security Group to identify organisations and sites with the greatest need.

This grant directly responds to the needs of our Jewish communities and recognises the importance of ensuring multicultural and multifaith Victorians have somewhere safe to congregate and pray.

As stated by Premier Daniel Andrews

"Our Government stands in solidarity with Jewish Victorians - we always have and we always will."

"In our proudly multicultural state, every Victorian should be able to practice their beliefs without fear."

As stated by Member for Box Hill Paul Hamer

"We're proud to support the Beth Weizmann Centre, which in turn supports so many in the community."

"This is about giving people greater security and peace of mind when they visit."

As stated by Member for Southern Metropolitan Nina Taylor

"Multiculturalism is a great strength and in Victoria - we don't just tolerate it, we celebrate it."

"We're doing more to ensure everyone is free to be themselves and practise their beliefs safely."
