Statement by Minister Chagger on Holi

From: Canadian Heritage

Today, Hindu communities in Canada and around the world gather to celebrate Holi, also known as the Festival of Colours. This celebration marks the end of winter and the return of spring. Families and friends get together to celebrate, sing, dance light bonfires and paint each other with brightly coloured powders.

Holi marks the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness. It is a time of reflection, optimism and hope for the coming year.

With its message of peace and friendship, Holi is celebrated across the country by Canadians of all backgrounds, and gives us an opportunity to recognize the incredible contributions of Hindu communities here in Canada. As Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has said, these celebrations remind us that our diversity is our greatest strength.

As Minister of Diversity and Inclusion and Youth, I wish everyone celebrating Holi a very happy festival with their loved ones. Holi Hai!
