We've received confirmation from the Department of Transport and Planning that the Minister for Planning has approved the final draft Bass Coast Statement of Planning Policy (SPP) to commence the endorsement process - a milestone we warmly welcome.
This marks the culmination of more than seven years of collaborative work to protect Bass Coast's significant economic, environmental, cultural, and community values through the introduction of 27 protected settlement boundaries.
The draft SPP was developed with Bass Coast Shire Council, the Bunurong, and relevant government agencies, and was informed by strong community input during three rounds of public consultation. It was also subject to an independent review by the Distinctive Areas and Landscapes Standing Advisory Committee, which concluded in April 2023.
The next step is formal endorsement; a report will be brought to Council for consideration at the June Council Meeting.
Once endorsed, the SPP will provide clear direction and greater certainty for the future of planning and development in Bass Coast.
