Statement From Minister For Local Government 31 October

VIC Premier

Municipal monitors will be appointed to the Glenelg Shire Council in south-west Victoria to improve the council's governance and guide the recruitment of a new chief executive officer.

I have made the decision to appoint two monitors to the council following a request for intervention from Glenelg Shire Mayor Cr Scott Martin that cited issues with culture in the council organisation.

Municipal monitors appointed previously in Victoria have proven to be effective in helping councils make improvements in governance that enable them to serve their communities as required by the Local Government Act 2020.

The monitors will be charged with identifying what is needed to support the Glenelg Shire Council to provide the standard of representation that its community expects and deserves.

The appointments will run for three months from 13 November. The monitors and their terms of reference will be announced shortly.
