Statement On TFES Commissioner

Tasmanian Government

Commissioner Jeremy Smith has made a significant contribution to the safety and wellbeing of Tasmanians throughout his nearly 40-year career.

On behalf of the Tasmanian Government, I thank Commissioner Smith for his service to the Tasmanian Fire Service, the State Emergency Service and the Tasmanian Community.

Commissioner Smith was appointed as our inaugural Tasmanian Fire and Emergency Services Commissioner in 2024.

His leadership during significant bushfire events on the West Coast in 2024 and the East Coast in 2025, and rollout of the Respect 360 Program following the TFS-SES Cultural Review is to be commended.

Together, we have delivered important reforms to bring our emergency services closer together, strengthening their capability and ensuring they are better equipped to meet the challenges of the future.

I wish Commissioner Smith and his family all the very best ahead of his well-deserved retirement.
