Stephen Somogyi appointed new TEQSA Commissioner

I am pleased to confirm that Stephen Somogyi has been appointed as a Commissioner of the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA).

Mr Somogyi will bring a wealth of experience to TEQSA with his decade of involvement in tertiary education and roles within the financial sector. His experience will assist the agency to fulfil its vital role as the nation's higher education regulator.

Stephen will play a key role in overseeing the financial and governance aspects of TEQSA's regulatory role within the higher education sector, as it emerges from the impacts of COVID-19.

TEQSA ensures the quality and reputation of Australia's higher education sector are maintained across all locations and modes of delivery, and supports the sector to address issues such as commercial academic cheating services.

Mr Somogyi has been appointed for a five year term and joins Chief Commissioner Professor Peter Coaldrake AO and fellow Commissioners Emeritus Professor Joan Cooper and Ms Adrienne Nieuwenhuis.
