Stolen car charges in Carramar

A man has been charged after allegedly crashing a stolen car in Carramar yesterday, NSW Police say.

The owner of a red Subaru reported his car stolen from his Edgar Street premises by a man known to him yesterday morning today.

An investigation was commenced with police allegedly sighting the vehicle on Cabramatta Road, Cabramatta. Officers followed the vehicle a short distance until it was stopped in traffic on the Hume Highway, Carramar.

As officers approached the 47-year-old driver he allegedly accelerated and mounted the medium strip where he collided with two cars on the Hume Highway. He continued driving a short distance before crashing into a telegraph pole.

He allegedly got out of the Subaru and ran.

With the assistance of Polair and the Dog Squad, the man was arrested hiding in bushes near the crash scene.

He was taken to Cabramatta Police Station where he was charged with steal from dwelling, take and drive conveyance, unlicensed driver, negligent driving, not stop after rash (x2) and possess prohibited drug.

Checks also revealed he was wanted in Queensland for revocation of parole.

He was refused bail and will appear in Liverpool Local Court tomorrow.
