A man is in custody and assisting police following multiple incidents involving an alleged stolen vehicle across north Brisbane yesterday afternoon, 24 September.
Officers were called to a Harcourt Street, Fortitude Valley, residence around 5.15pm on Monday, following reports a man had been assaulted, and his Jeep Compass stolen.
The Jeep was seen driving dangerously by members of the public through multiple north Brisbane suburbs, including driving onto a sports oval on Maidencombe Street, Geebung, where members of the public were present.
Officers, along with assistance from the Dog Squad and POLAIR, were able to track the Jeep to Sheena Street, Zillmere, where it struck a parked vehicle and came to a stop around 7.15pm.
The driver and sole occupant, an 18-year-old Stafford man, then fled the scene on foot towards Deborah Street, where he was arrested.
The man was taken to hospital where he remains under police guard.
Once released from hospital, it is expected he will be charged with one count each of robbery used violence, unlawful use of a motor vehicle – use, dangerous operation of a vehicle and driving of a motor vehicle without a driver licence.
Fortitude Valley Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) Detective Acting Senior Sergeant, Stephen Bull, said officers were grateful for public assistance.
"Police would like to thank members of the public who reported their observations of the stolen vehicle throughout the incident, and we are thankful no members of the public were injured as a result of the man's actions."
Investigators are appealing to anyone with dashcam footage of the vehicle to contact police.
